Namaste. I'm Kat. I don't think of myself as a yoga teacher, though I am certified and a member of the Kripalu Yoga Teacher's Association. At the beginning of my teacher training, my mentor said we are learning "to hold space and witness the birth of people's spirits". That was a humbling thought and it's something I've carried with me since. I am happy to share my practice and offer some useful tips on breathing to help you establish an intimate and nurturing relationship with your body. Beyond that, it is my hope that yoga is not just another form of exercise for those who choose it, or are chosen by it, but becomes a way of being in the world, for the real benefit of Kripalu yoga lies in a compassionate heart.My personal passions are my daughter, learning, yoga and horses. Possibly in that order. Jai Bhagwan or May the Divine in You Prosper!

Kripalu Yoga

The goal of Kripalu Yoga is to develop a healthy and strong body, an open and caring heart, and a peaceful and clear mind.Kripalu Yoga is an interplay of body, mind and energy. Within the physical body, is a subtle flow of rhythmic energy pulsations that we call prana, or life force. Sometimes, the most seemingly insignificant negative thought can disturb or block this flow of energy, creating imbalance or a sense of dis-ease. Every act of the body is invariably accompanied and strongly influenced by mental and emotional conditions, awareness of which forms the more subtle aspects of the practice; physical postures, breathing techniques, deep relaxation and meditation. By being fully present and bearing witness to our physical, mental and emotional experiences, blockages begin to dissolve, energy is freed, allowing healing to occur on all levels. Each day, as we encounter and release layers of stress, pain, and unconscious resistance lodged in the body, we progressively accelerate the natural, internal healing processes that enable us to awaken to the higher levels of emotional stability, mental clarity and physical well-being.Yoga works on the muscular-skeletal systems as well as the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, immune and nervous systems. Regular practice sometimes produces physical benefits including reduced anxiety, lower stress and blood pressure levels, and increased relaxation, flexibility, strength, endurance, and energy levels. The practice of Kripalu Yoga, which elevates the body and uses it as vehicle for accessing spirit, can have profound effects on all levels of being. As mental and emotional disturbances are dissolved, tremendous amounts of prana energy is released to aid in healing. A practice of this depth offers far greater possibilities than could be expected from an isolated physical discipline.Kripalu Yoga is also a tool for self empowerment and personal growth. The practice teaches us to tap into our own inner-knowing, instead of relying on guidance from external authorities. We learn to be open to what others have to offer without giving away our powers to reason, discriminate and make our own decisions. At the same time, we are also establishing an intimate and nurturing relationship with our body. Every sensation becomes sacred and is responded to with tenderness and compassion; each session approached with an attitude of prayer. In time, our bodies become the temples in which we invoke the presence of the divine. This intention can take us to new depths on and off the mat.
